Welcome to the forum!

You will find that most folks use 4wt and 5wt rods on the Sipsey. A 6 ft leader, with another 3-4 ft of tippet is good for the Sipsey. Others may disagree. I wanted to add that I use a furled leader and then tie the tippet off of that.

I use 5x tippet while some use 6x tippet - either is usually fine.

I agree with Scott on the rods, not on the leader though.
I'm partial to a 3-4 wt and a 9ft leader and a 1-2ft tippet.
The 5-7x tippets work well.
Sometimes I'll even use an 8X :o

I normally use 6x on the Sip and would like to use 7x but my older eyes make it hard for me to tie on a fly with that spider web-like tippet.  Can't imagine using an 8x.  I'll leave that to you young bucks!

Looks like you got a few great answers already but my .02 worth is:  I carry a 7'6" 3 wt and a 8'6" 5wt.  Both have furled leaders that I have grown to love with 3 to 4 foot of tippet which makes my total leader length in the 9 to 10 foot range and I have used up to 12 foot of leader when the fish are really spooky.  As far as size of tippet, again it has to do with the fish.  I carry 5,6, and 7x and will use 6x most of the time.  If I am seeing alot of fish rising and getting no bites, I will go down to the 7x after no luck changing flies.  I also like to use a dry/dropper rig and will use the 7x on the dropper almost all the time.  To add a little more to the mix I also have a bamboo rod that is a 3-4wt that is fun to fish with also.

As far as flies, like I said I like to use a dry/dropper rig that I will use a larger caddis and either a nymph or midge as a dropper.  Zebra midges, prince nymphs, yellow sallys, copper johns, hare's ear, flashback pheasant tails, and pretty much what you are used to using in the mountains will work on the sip.  I have caught fish on everything from a size 20 to a 12, just depends on the day.  One thing that you can never go to the sip without having in your flybox is a wooley booger.  I have caught fish on white, olive, black and believe it or not purple.  Like I said that's my $.02 worth.

Somebody say "Purple"? :D
No Sipsey fly box is complete until it has a almost world famous jgist prop bugger in it ;).
Visit the Sip enough and you're bound to run into him, he usually has a spare his is willing to pass along.

Yes Earl, the purple wooley booger is deadly.  My daughter wanted to tie a fly one time and I used things that I thought I would hardly ever use and it ended up with a purple maribou tail, peacock herl body and grizzley hackle and a gold bead head.  She and I sat behind the pump station one day and caught 12 trout on that one fly until the fish had completely destroyed it.  So yes the purple squirrel booger is deadly.
